Saskatchewan Science Centre (Regina)

    As Chief Executive Officer of the Saskatchewan Science Centre Stephen was responsible for a staff of 50 and the smooth operation of the facility, including all administrative and operational concerns. In his tenure as Executive Director, Stephen managed the construction of the $4.2M Kramer IMAX Theatre, which boosted overall attendance to 200,000 visitors annually, making the Science Centre the number-one tourist attraction in Saskatchewan.

    As Director of Science and Exhibits Stephen functioned as the chief of exhibits, public programming, design and technical services. Responsibilities included:
  1. Directing four departments: Design, Development, Production, and Programming. (Total staff: 17).
  2. Developing strategies for efficient realization of exhibits and public programs.
  3. Procuring special displays and traveling shows, and negotiating contracts when necessary.
  4. Coordinating the work of technical specialists, science advisors, and other consultants.
  5. Representing the Science Centre as required at media, corporate, or other public events.
  6. Maintaining the science integrity of the Science Centre.

    This was an interim position during the development phase of the science centre. Responsibilities included:
  1. Developing an exhibit philosophy.
  2. Hiring and managing an exhibit design & production team (Total staff: 10)
  3. Purchasing equipment for design and production.
  4. Preparing a 3-phase, $1.75M budget.
  5. Overseeing the development of a corporate identity.
  6. Preparing an exhibit sponsorship catalogue.
  7. Participating in promotion and fundraising activities.


1979 to 1986
Ontario Science Centre, Don Mills (Ontario)

    Responsibilities included creating a catalogue format for exhibit duplication inquiries; exhibit sales; researching and writing "A Technical Manual for the Canada Science Circus".

    Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Responsible for designing and implementing modifications to the "Canada Science Circus" (Putra World Trade Centre, Kuala Lumpur); maintaining exhibits; performing public demonstrations; and hosting visitors to the exhibition.

    Assisted in the coordination and promotion of the "Ontario Science Circus" visit to Gananoque, Ontario; Coordinated the "Science Sideshow Fall Tour '85" to three communities in Northern Ontario; Created a report with recommendations for design modifications.

    Development and design of three exhibits for O.S.C's "Hall of Technology"; Production of working drawings for manufacture of exhibits in O.S.C. shops.
